This is critical for <em>Phytophthora<\/em> spp. that cause root disease, such as<em> P. lateralis<\/em> and <em>P. cinnamomi.<\/em> While <em>P. ramorum<\/em> is not known to cause root disease, it can colonize the roots asymptomatically.
