{"id":2868,"date":"2015-07-15T14:45:05","date_gmt":"2015-07-15T21:45:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ppo.puyallup.wsu.edu\/sod\/?page_id=2868"},"modified":"2015-07-15T14:51:00","modified_gmt":"2015-07-15T21:51:00","slug":"prd","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ppo.puyallup.wsu.edu\/sod\/education\/mginfo\/pr-symptoms\/prd\/","title":{"rendered":"Phytophthora root disease and canker"},"content":{"rendered":"<br \/>\n<section id=\"builder-section-1436995858873\" class=\"row single gutter pad-top\">\n<div class=\"column one \">\n<header>\n<h2>Phytophthora root disease and canker<\/h2>\n<\/header>\n<p>Root disease and cankering are caused by several species of <em>Phytophthora<\/em>: <em>Phytophthora cinnamomi, P. cactorum, P. cambivora, P. citricola, P. cryptogea, P. drechsleri, P. megasperma, <\/em>and<em> P. syringae. Phytophthora <\/em>root disease is characterized by general decline, twig and branch dieback, small, yellow and sparse foliage, premature leaf-drop, and lesions on the lower trunk and root crown. Typically there is bleeding or oozing through bark cracks near the root-crown, often appearing as black to rusty streaking. Wood and inner bark appear discolored on recently dead material. Frequent irrigation, poor drainage and poor soil aeration favor this pest.
