Common Garden Study: Pacific Madrone

Range-wide genetic variability in Pacific madrone (Arbutus menziesii): examining disease resistance, growth and survival in a common garden study

young madrones planted in the ground and spaced evenly. The one closest to the camera has a dead leaf cluster but all other visible leaves are healthy.

Using material from the Washington State University Pacific madrone seed collection, common garden plantings consisting of 105 families collected from 7 ecoregions were planted in five locations in California, Oregon, and Washington in 2011, and two sites in western British Columbia in 2013.
