Transferring Oomycetes to pure culture

Students visited the WSU-Puyallup plant pathology lab to transfer Oomycetes growing on the isolation plates to pure culture on V8 agar.

Identifying colonies of Phytophthora or Pythium to be transferred
Two students in front of a laminar flow hood with steel mesh for the back and bright lights as its ceiling. The student closer to the camera is hunched over, using a scalpel to collect the desired colony and move it to a clean plate. The student further back is busy as well but her hands are blocked by the first student's body.
Transferring colonies to pure culture is done in a laminar flow hood or biosafety cabinet.
